Sparkling with inner fire. A beautiful pair of antique Victorian earrings comprised of dozens of ruby red, rose cut Bohemian garnets prong set in brass. Garnets mined in Bohemia are of the variety called pyrope (from the Greek words pyr for "fire" and ops for "eye"). Of a rare high quality found in Central Bohemia in the north of the Czech Republic, the Bohemian garnet’s color ranges from fiery-red to ruby-red. Jewely set with Bohemian garnets was very popular in the 19th century. This pair of earrings is in Extremely Fine condition with no damage or repairs. No missing or chipped garnets. Not hallmarked. The earrings hang 1-1/8 inches from the top of the earwire to the tip of the drop. The rosette is 1/2 inch in diameter. The drop is approximately 3/8 inch long. The closed back rosette is set with 1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm size garnets. The largest garnet in the drop is approximately 3mm in an open backed setting. For pierced ears. Gift boxed. (The box is not antique or vintage.)
