Vintage Copper Rebajes Necklace

Click on a thumbnail image to see enlarged images.

Beautifully crafted copper by Francisco Rebajes. Comprised of segmented pieces of copper that overlay one another creating an articulated style of necklace. The necklace moves with you almost as though it is a part of you rather than just a thing hanging around your neck. The coloration of the copper from dark to light is intentional and adds to the piece's three dimensional quality. Francisco Rebajes came to the United State in 1922 at the age of 16 from the Dominican Republic. He was a self taught craftsman of incredible skill and it was not long before he became quite well known. His work was most popular in the 1950s and 1960s. In the late 1960s he left the United States for Spain. This necklace is in Extremely Fine condition with no damage or repairs. 16 inches long x 5/8 inch wide and 3/8 inch high. Hallmarked. Gift boxed. (The box is not vintage.)
