A rare antique Victorian silver snake bracelet with a head that has been embossed in great detail. When Albert presented Victoria with her engagement ring, it was a snake with an emerald-set head. Snake motif jewelry remained popular throughout the century as a symbol of eternal love. Very high quality workmanship. The bracelet is a bypass style which was very popular during the Victorian era. The size cannot be adjusted but will fit a 5-1/2 inch to 6-1/2 inch wrist. There are no marks as to silver content but the bracelet does appear to me to be coin silver. Coin silver was commonly used for jewelry during this time period and does contain a higher silver content than German silver. The bracelet is quite bright when polished. Overall condition Extremely Fine with only one very tiny imperfection toward the tip of the tail. Smaller than pinhead size indentation and scratch which may have occurred during the bracelet's creation. You can see it in the first photo just about 1 inch or so from the tail tip, top edge. I have lightly polished the surface but left the majority of the bracelet's antique tarnish undisturbed. When all of the tarnish is removed, it becomes very difficult to tell antique pieces from 'knockoffs'. Not hallmarked. Gift boxed. (The box is not antique or vintage.)
